We’re thrilled to announce a new project for KG Constructions Group in Sweden – the extension of East 1 in the Gamlestaden district of Gothenburg. Once the historic SKF office premises, the building is now entering a new chapter: an additional 6 floors will be constructed on top of the existing 16-storey structure to create modern office spaces. This development is an important step for the entire area, marking a significant phase in the district’s ongoing transformation.
Since the building is part of the cultural heritage registry, the renovation requires exceptional sensitivity and precision. Many original architectural elements will be preserved and restored — including the existing façade tiles and interior wall finishes, which have carried the building’s identity since 1967.
KG Constructions Group is responsible for delivering the unitized façade for the newly added 6 floors. One of the most technically demanding and architecturally distinctive aspects of this project is the decorative pilasters running along the entire height of the building. In the existing structure, these pilasters not only define the architectural rhythm but also serve a load-bearing function, supporting the building. During renovation, the anodized cladding on these original columns will be renewed, while in the new extension the pilasters will be carefully continued as decorative elements, matching the same aesthetic.
Our goal is achieving a perfect alignment between the old and new sections, ensuring that the pilasters appear as one continuous architectural feature without any visual break.
Façade area supplied by KGC: 4,257 m²
This façade will become one of the defining highlights of the district’s redevelopment, and for us, it represents another project where precision, heritage preservation, and modern engineering meet seamlessly.
